DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT: Without going into detail about my own sex life because my parents might read this (please don’t disown me), much of this film was inspired by my personal struggles with embracing and understanding the female libido and the accompanying sense of shame. In the few moments I opened up to friends, I was stunned to learn that, more often than I would have guessed, my friends don’t orgasm. For women, so much of enjoying sex is controlled by what’s between our ears, not our legs—unlike men.

There’s no comparison between the male and female orgasm. As long as their "hardware" works, men orgasm every time. It’s frustratingly easy for them to tune out their heads and hearts and let their bodies lead. They even have a little blue pill to assist with the heavy lifting. Typically, when the man orgasms, the sex ends. Yet women are expected to still finish. However, if we can’t, we’re often made to feel like something is wrong with us, without any consideration for what else lies within our incredibly complex psyches.

Due to lingering societal taboos, female pleasure is rarely explored or discussed—especially onscreen. When the man finishes, the scene ends. Because we’ve tied sex to being for male enjoyment only, I've rarely seen a true exploration of how a woman might experience full-blown ecstasy. Instead, it’s often reduced to her needing a wild night with a European "sex god." So, I asked: what does it actually look like for a woman to struggle to feel pleasure amid shame? How does this struggle manifest in a romantic relationship? What causes a woman to arrive here in the first place? And how—if possible—can she overcome it?

My hope with this film is that it resonates with any woman who has struggled to reach orgasm and allows her to see herself onscreen, especially those who’ve been victims of sexual trauma. This is one of the most common reasons why women struggle to orgasm, and research on how to heal is nearly nonexistent. This is why I see this film as essential to bring to life. I want to aid in the healing process and inspire a broader conversation that brings women’s needs out of the shadows. Women deserve to heal. Women deserve pleasure. Women deserve their version of that little blue pill.
